Marching Band Director / Concert Band Director / Symphonic Band Director
Doug Hildreth is a director at Westerville Central High School. In addition to his duties as head director of the Warhawk Marching Band, Mr. Hildreth also directs the Concert and Symphonic bands at Westerville Central High School, as well as teaches 6-8 band at Genoa Middle School. Prior to coming to Westerville, Mr. Hildreth served as Percussion Caption Head for the Olentangy Marching Band, as well as head percussion instructor for Delaware Hayes High School. Mr. Hildreth also served as the head director of The Delaware Hayes Indoor Drumline during his time in Delaware. He is a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University and The Ohio State University where he marched as a member of The Ohio State University Marching Band.

Orchestra & Jazz Ensemble Director
John Vermeulen is the Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble Director at Westerville Central High School and String teacher at Blendon Middle School. He also assists with the Marching Band at Westerville North H.S. Before teaching in Westerville, he taught in Dallas, Texas and Mansfield, Ohio. Mr. Vermeulen grew up in Westerville, graduating from Westerville South H.S. in 1977. He received his B.M. in Music Education and Jazz Studies from Capital University in 1981 and his M.M in Jazz Studies and Orchestral Conducting from the University of North Texas in 1989.
Kristy Shaffer-May has been a Marching Band Technician with Central since 2017 and is the Genoa Middle School Band Director. She is a woodwind and brass specialist with 24 years of teaching including Director of Bands at both Madison Local School District and Massillon City School District. Ms Shaffer-May received both her Bachelors and Masters in Music Education at The University of Akron and currently holds her Lead Teaching License with the State of Ohio.
Color Guard Instructor
My name is Jessie D’Amico and I’m a Central Alum from the Class of 2011, now serving as Central’s Color Guard Coach! I started high school as a member of the dance team and transitioned to Color Guard my Junior year. After high school I went to college at the University of Cincinnati to study Engineering where I continued with the marching band there and was Captain of the UC Color Guard 2013-2015. After I graduated I took a position with a local company in Cincinnati as well as became the Color Guard Coach for Elder High School. In August of 2018 my fiancé and I decided to move back to Columbus and the rest is history. I currently work in Supply Chain for LBrands and when I’m not at work or with the guard students, my favorite pass time is to eat ice cream and love on my dog, Stella
Marching Band Percussion Instructor
Ian Murphy is a percussionist and educator. He has been the Percussion Caption head since 2011. He received a Bachelors degree in percussion performance from the University of Kentucky where he studied with Professor James Campbell. Ian has worked extensively with high school and middle school percussion programs throughout Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia. He was a member of the Bluecoats Drum and Bugle Corps where he also served on the percussion staff as a front ensemble instructor. Ian currently lives in Westerville with his wife and son.
Marching Band Woodwind Instructor
Mr. Adam Gammill has been teaching Spanish at Olentangy High School for 16 years as an alumnus of the school. He was an Assistant Director and woodwind instructor there for 9 years. This is his first year on staff with the Marching Warhawks. He has high school and collegiate (Miami of Ohio) marching band experience in addition to his previous director position. Mr. Gammill is excited and grateful to work with the Warhawks band and community.
Kristen Mc Cann
Marching Band Visual Director
Ms. Kristen Mc Cann is the Visual Director for the Warhawks. She attended Otterbein University and is a Science Teacher at Westerville Central. She brings 16 years of experience with playing the trombone and 8 year’s experience with marching. In her down time she trains her dog in agility trials.
Marching Band Brass Instructor
Ms. Theresa O’Deens graduated from Pickerington Central in 2016 and is attending Capital University for her dual major in Music Education for Horn and Voice emphasis. She has over eight years of experience in french horn, trumpet and violin. This summer Ms. O’Deens performed at the WWII Memorial in Washington DC.
Band Camp Staff
Mr. Alex Healey is currently a Junior at Ohio University and is a tuba section leader for the Marching 110. He is studying to get his bachelor’s degree in Music Education. He has played tuba, clarinet and saxophone for over seven years. He has played at three different NFL games and the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. He looks forward to marching in Japan with the Marching 110 in January.
Band Camp Staff
Ms. Melinda Hunt graduated from Hilliard Darby in 2016 and is attending University of Cincinnati for her Music Education degree. She has over eight years of experience in piano, bassoon and saxophone. Ms. Hunt is fresh off a stint in Spain where she spent six weeks studying the language and culture of the country.
